Crush Red Blend from Costco’s Hello Summer Wine Sampler (2021) | A Review

Costco Summer Wine Sampler Crush Red Blend

This post is not sponsored.

Costco just released a summer version of their winter Wine Advent Calendar: the “Hello Summer Wine Sampler 2021”.   We are so in love with this idea and this sampler, as it’s a box of 12 unique wines (in perfectly sized 375ml bottles) where one different wine can be sampled each day for 12 days.

Today is day 1 (of 12) of the wine sampler and we tried the Crush Red Blend (2020) .

See below for our thoughts on Costco’s Hello Summer Wine Sampler (2021) and its Crush Red Blend wine (2020).   Stayed tuned for more posts too as we’ll be reviewing every single wine in this box.

Our Review of the Crush Red Blend (2020)

Type of Wine

This 2020 red blend is made from 40% Castelao, 40% Aragonez and 20% Alicante Bouchet.

This red blend comes from Portugal.

Alcohol Content

 13.2% ABV.

How and when to drink / taste

This red blend is “a wine of true soul and character, this unique blend of Portuguese red varieties shows savory dark fruit at its core, with roasted coffee notes on the finish” (as mentioned on its label).

When we tried this red blend wine, this peppery-flavored wine paired well with our meal of spaghetti pasta with Italian sausage in a rich savory tomato sauce.  Other food pairings that could go well with this include roasted meats, spicy foods, or strong flavored cheeses.

The Bottom Line

We recommend Crush Red Blend from Costco’s Hello Summer Wine Sampler (2021) and rate it 3.5 Stars (out of 5)!

This red blend wine from Portugal is dark and deep-flavored, leaving a lasting peppery flavor on your tongue with each sip.  This wine really shined when paired with our equally rich meal of spaghetti with Italian sausage and chunky tomato sauce, as the savory food and this strong wine played off of each other very nicely.  We could see how this red blend could pair well with red meats, spicy food or strong-flavored cheeses.
