Summer is practically here, which means barbeques at the beach, picnics at the park, and dinners in the backyard.  You can clearly see where our heads are at: all food-related hangouts.  And with all this summer food, you’re going to need a nice white wine that highlights the sweet and tropical vibe that summer brings.

See below for our review of Trader Moon Co.’s Honey Moon Viognier (2020).

How and when to drink / Taste

Named after the June full moon which “signifies the moment when the sweet scent of flowers turn into young groups”, this white wine is described as “lush, full-bodied wine with peach, apricot and honeysuckle aromas followed by a luscious honey, mango and nectar finish.”

Trader Moon Co. recommends pairing this wine with lobster, roast chicken, sole and even Thai coconut-based curries.  For us, this piqued our interest as this tropically-nuanced wine could pair well with our upcoming Hawaiian-themed meal.  The wine was chilled before serving and gave a bright and refreshing flavor that worked well with our meal of sweet charred roast chicken, white rice and creamy macaroni salad.  The wine also had a light sweet fragrance that had hints of honey, as the label mentioned.

Price

One 750ml bottle is $5.99.

The Bottom Line

We recommend Trader Moon Co.’s Honey Moon Viognier (2020) and rate it 4.0 Stars (out of 5)!

A “lush, full-bodied wine with peach, apricot and honeysuckle aromas” and “a luscious honey, mango and nectar finish,” this white Viognier wine produced in Manteca, California is bright, refreshing, and sweet-fragranced.  Highly drinkable and enjoyable during summer meals with chicken, seafood or even coconut-based curries, we loved pairing this wine with our own little Hawaiian-themed barbeque with chicken, rice and mac salad.
